Topic 4 - Immigration
Through Chapter 4, the class will learn about immigration to the United States throughout history. We will discuss key factors which prompted people to migrate to the United States, how immigrants traveled to American, and the range of emotions immigrants experienced a long the way. The students will work in pairs on Chromebooks to take a virtual tour of Ellis Island, exploring all the steps an immigrant went through just to be granted entrance into the United States as well as listen to the stories of some immigrants the same age as them!
Chapter 3 - landforms & bodies of water
In Chapter 3, the students learn about various landforms and bodies of water on Earth. During our
exploration of geography, we will take a closer look at the most well known landforms and bodies of water
in the United States. Lastly, the students will dive more deeply into 3 US communities and learn the
geography, climate, and natural resources which are important to each one!

These students are in charge of their own learning as they discover what it is like to live in 3 communities across the US!

Chapter 12: How are community
leaders elected?
In Chapter 12 the students learn about the campaign process through a Class President Election! Throughout
this chapter students will learn key election vocabulary, the qualities of a good leader, the difference between rules & laws and perks & responsibilities, and will discuss good vs bad promises. The big culminating activity
at the end of this chapter is an actual Class President Election! Along the way each student will create a campaign platform, write a slogan, design an campaign poster, devise propaganda, and compose a speech.
The students are going to have so much fun!!!

Chapter 2: What makes the USA Unique?
Throughout Chapter 2, the students will learn about special landmarks and features in the United States
which make our country unique. We will learn in depth about the Statue of Liberty, the Everglades,
Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, and the Golden Gate Bridge. The students still need to know the
directions on a compass rose as well as 'where in the world we are'!

Chapter 1: where in the world are we?
In Chapter 1 the students will become experts in describing where they live. We start by examining Earth
from space and then zoom in closer and closer, learning key concepts (such as the hemispheres,
the continents and oceans, our country and state) as we go! The students also learn about and
use a compass rose and the intermediate directions.
